“Ending The First Month”

Day

22

12:46 PM

Coming soon (eight days!) is the end of the first month of this project. It’s a bit sobering to think that it’s been that long already. I’ll do more of a retrospective on my first month, next week after it’s over.

In the mean time, Nibble has arrived and is nibbling on my chin, trying to gain my attention.

Yes, one of my cats is named Nibble. For exactly this reason.

But I digress.

Today’s task is to finish up the last of the fluff pages; just a bit more to do on the signup flow. Also a couple of random pages, like the “oh crap, everything broke” page for a 500 error, which should take like five seconds. Then I get to really dig into the device workflow, and then into device configuration.

This was supposed to be a better prototype, but it’s rapidly turning into a production grade bit of software, sans graphic design. I can’t help it; most of what I need, if I don’t do it now, it won’t ever get done right. The performance monitoring stuff from the other day is a great example: it took me a day or so to do fully, and that seems like a waste of time.

But now I get it for free, and I never have to think about it again as I implement the rest of the system. That’s going to save me weeks at some later date.

I’m still trying to limit my pie-in-the-skyism, but some things are just meant to be.

So anyway, I need to stop procrastinating by writing this, and get to actually working on today’s tasks. It’s already a late start – I do hate my sleep schedule – and I have a lot more work to do.

I’ll lave you with this thought: the prototype has been assembled, and is currently in the QC stage. If it passes, then packaging and delivery are next! I really can’t wait!

5:03 PM

A productive day so far; just about ready to start on fun stuff.

I was going to say that I was done with the fluff pages, but I just remember two more I have to do before getting down to it (404 and 500). I want some “lunch” first, though, so I’m going to do that right now.

The prototype hardware is still stuck in QC; no other word yet.

5:41 PM

My prototypes appear to have passed QC, and are now being packaged up! Yay!

Now if only that QC included “does the circuit actually work correctly”… I’m nervous. Did I get it right, or did I blow it? Will it blend?!

Time will tell…

10:02 PM

Adding security in various places, adding a missing feature or two… The devil truly is in the details when it comes to something like this. At least I’m getting closer, though…
